Congratulations to the StrongWellness Teams. I appreciate your dedication and commitment to improving your health. Your example is a positive testimonial for all of us. Not only did you accomplish your aggressive goals, you exceeded your goals! Your goal for the corporate challenge was 2% weight loss which totaled 248 lbs. and you successfully exceeded your goal with a total weight loss of 444.9 lbs. Also, the 2,718 workouts exceeded the 2,160 goal. Now that you have begun this lifestyle change I encourage you to continue maintaining your health conscious attitude and fitness.

A message from Harriet -

A few of us have decided to go to Ed’s Pizza after the competition on Saturday. I have always been one for “the more the merrier”…….so; please see if your team members would like to join in on the well deserved pizza…uh, I mean fun. Maybe enough will go that we can take over the entire place! (Ed’s is a cash only restaurant.)

Sounds like a fine idea! Anita even offered up a health tip for the trip!

You can blot the top of the pizza with napkins to get any extra grease off...

Latest Bulletin From the YMCA

Sorry I have not been in contact sooner this week. Unfortunately I was called out of town for a family emergency. Here is the schedule of events for Saturday!

  • 8:45am – Weigh-ins

  • 9:15am – Free Throw, Shuttle Run, One Mile Run, Weight Lifting

  • 10:00am – Tug o' War, Bucket Relay

  • 11:00am – Inner-Tube and 100yd Swim

  • 11:45am – Results and Awards
I need all team rosters ASAP! If for some reason your team is not competing please let me know!

All events are planned to be held at the Tennessee High Practice Field. I know the weather is going to be a little chilly! But the games must go on! Dress warmly and plan on being outside for a couple of hours. If the weather forecast should change (rain or snow) I will let everyone know the alternative plans. BUT! I believe things will go off as planned!

You may weigh in at the YMCA this week up until Friday afternoon! After this all weigh ins will be at the Tennessee High Practice field on Saturday.

I only have a couple of teams that have expressed interest in the Volleyball tournament. I need confirmation by the end of the day Today so I can secure refs, set schedules and make sure gym space is open for the time needed.

Thanksgiving Survival Guide

The average American will consume more than 4,500 calories and 229 grams of fat on Thanksgiving Day alone, according to the Caloric Control Council. Surprisingly, most of these calories come from the all-day snacking in front of the TV while watching parades and sporting events.

Use these basic tips to help you on Thanksgiving Day!

  • Remember one day is not going to kill you! Enjoy the day, just try and keep the day in moderation.
  • Use a smaller plate! Don’t skip eating your favorite foods, just eat a little less!
  • Slow down and enjoy your meal! Take a bite; put your fork down have a drink of water! You will fill up faster and be less likely to over indulge!
  • Don’t skip breakfast! – Eat a bowl of oatmeal or two eggs and a piece of wheat bread!
  • Drink a lot of water- 8 – 12oz glasses of water (one full glass before you eat and one during your meal) Skip the sodas! You are getting enough calories without it!
  • Get a 30 minute walk in the morning and if you can, do 30 minutes in the afternoon!
  • Throw a football with the kids, shoot basketball, just get out and move!
  • Don’t just keep eating because you don’t want to be wasteful! Freeze the leftovers! Send food home with the relatives!
  • Leftovers are fine, but use the same tips above to keep from over eating!
  • Get out on Friday to the YMCA and do your exercise!

Important notes from Chris Ayers at the Y:

  • Deadline for Volleyball Team Registrations is Tuesday December 2nd. Please get your team forms in so I can plan for the tournament. I must get referees and gym schedules out next week.
  • Deadline for your Corporate Challenge Team Events Roster are due no later than Friday December 5th @ 12:00pm. Please let me know if for some reason your team will not compete!
  • Deadline to register your team’s workouts in Friday December 5th @ 5:00pm. I will be taking the charts down at 5:00pm to begin the tedious task of counting 15,000 stars and getting scores for the total # of team workouts.

Don’t forget to put your stars up on the YMCA charts for each 30-minute workout for each week. The total number of stars on each team’s chart will determine the winners of Part of the Corporate Cup competition. There will be a cut-off date for updating your charts. If you can’t make it by the YMCA to update your chart – ask someone to do it for you. You are hurting your team if you don’t. Workout charts will be taken down at 5:00p.m. on Friday, December 5, for the final star count. If you are working out on Friday evening – get your star up on that chart BEFORE 5:00p.

All times are approximate. Please be there a few minutes early in case the events move quicker than expected.

Just stuff you might want to know:

A drawing will be held at 8:45 a.m. to determine the order the teams will compete. If your team is drawn as team number 3, then you will compete in all events as the 3rd team up.

The Bucket Race – This is a 4-minute race. Anything goes – team members do not have to run one at a time – all team members can be racing at the same time. You will have an approx. 6-oz. Dixie cup to fill a 1 to 2 gallon bucket. Water will come from a Culligan bottle.

Free Throw Shoot – Don’t forget to pick a rebounder for you. 25 shots to be taken in 3 minutes, men’s regulation size ball on 10-ft. goals.

Shuttle Run is currently scheduled to be run on the field – not the track.

Tug-a-War – gloves are allowed.
